Chairman, Founder/Director Everest ER

Board member since: 2003

Day job: I work for Medcor Inc, a company that runs really cool clinics in out of the way places where I love to work!

How I got involved with the EBC clinic? I wandered into EBC in 2002 while volunteering at the HRA Pheriche clinic and was astounded to see how many folks were in need of medical advice and care. Looking for a way to combine my passion for the mountains with my desire to give back to the Sherpa people I had come to love; what better way than to start a clinic? In a tent? On a big hunk of moving ice? Why not?

How I’ve promoted the clinic in the past year: Fundraising for the clinic is one of the most inspiring things I get to do – spreading the message and recruiting followers and sponsors. I think I gave a talk about the clinic at least 25 times this year alone!

Hobbies: A new one is telemark skiing, beginning to get the hang of skate skiing too.  I am still no ace at ice climbing, but when I can get my fingers and toes to warm up, I love it!

Favorite thing to do when I have a day off: Anything outside, and usually accompanied by friends and more than a few dogs…

Day job: Partner at the law firm Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons LLP in Denver, Colorado.

How I got involved with the EBC clinic? I climbed Everest in 2006, and first met Luanne in base camp. Our team used the clinic’s service extensively that year, and the staff’s capabilities, professionalism, compassion and dedication were incredibly impressive. After watching them at work I thought ‘Wow, how can I get involved?’

How I’ve promoted the clinic in the past year: Through my legal counsel to the Himalayan Rescue Association-USA.

Hobbies: Rock, ice and alpine climbing, road and mountain biking, skiing, and generally planning for the Next Big Adventure (whatever it might be).

Favorite thing to do when I have a day off: My days off are generally spent at our kids’ soccer and other sports games, supporting my wife’s cycling (she’s a pro road cyclist), and, of course, climbing!

How I got involved with the EBC clinic? I served as a volunteer physician through the HRA in 1998 and 2002. When the EBC clinic was established, Luanne was kind enough to allow me the opportunity to work there in 2006 and 2009.

How I’ve promoted the clinic in the past year: I lead treks in Nepal to fundraise for the Everest ER and our Nepal projects.

Hobbies: hiking, climbing, scuba-diving, flying,

Favorite thing to do when I have a day off: a great day off is spent outside, enjoying the many natural wonders that exist around our home…
